Turn

The flight number showing how much a disc drifts right, for a right hand backhand, at high speed.

Turn is the third flight number and it is usually shown as zero or a negative value down to about minus 5. It measures how much a disc wants to bank to the right, for a standard right hand backhand throw, while it is still moving fast early in the flight. A disc with a turn of minus 3 will drift noticeably more than one rated minus 1.

This number matters because it is what separates understable discs, which turn easily, from overstable discs, which resist turning almost entirely. Turn happens at high speed, right after release, and is most visible on powerful throws where the disc has enough velocity to overcome its rim resistance. Wind, arm speed and disc wear all change how much turn shows up on a given throw.

For buying decisions, more negative turn numbers are generally friendlier for beginners and slower arm speeds because the disc naturally works with a weaker throw instead of flying dead straight or hooking left too soon. A frequent mix up is confusing turn with fade, since turn happens early and to the right, while fade happens late and to the left, and they need to be read together, not separately.
