Disc weight
The mass of a disc in grams, which affects how easy it is to throw far and how it holds in wind.
Disc weight is usually printed in grams somewhere on the disc, most commonly ranging from around 150 grams for light putters up to 175 or 180 grams for maximum weight drivers and midranges. It is separate from the flight numbers, but it changes how those numbers actually show up in a real throw.
Weight matters because lighter discs are easier to throw with high speed at a lower arm speed, which is why many beginners and younger players are steered toward lighter drivers and midranges to get a fuller, more complete flight. Heavier discs, on the other hand, tend to resist wind and maintain their intended flight path more reliably once a player has the arm speed to control them.
A frequent mistake is buying only maximum weight discs because they feel more solid in hand, without accounting for arm speed, which often results in flights that never fully turn over or glide as the flight numbers suggest. Building a bag with a mix of weights, lighter for distance while learning and heavier as power increases, tends to serve beginners better than sticking to one weight across the board.
