Portable basket
A folding disc golf target designed to set up quickly at home or in a park for putting practice.
A portable basket is a lightweight, usually foldable version of the permanent chain baskets found on disc golf courses, built to be carried in a bag or car trunk and set up in a backyard, park or driveway. Most fold flat or collapse down for storage and weigh a fraction of a permanent, in ground basket.
Portable baskets matter because consistent putting practice is one of the fastest ways to lower scores, and having a target at home removes the barrier of driving to a course every time a player wants to work on short range putts. Many portable models are designed specifically to catch putts with a similar chain response to permanent baskets, so practice at home translates reasonably well to the course.
When buying, pay attention to how the chains catch compared to a full sized permanent basket, since some budget portable baskets let easy putts spit back out, which can build bad habits or false confidence. A common mistake is buying the cheapest, lightest basket available and then being surprised that its catch behaves nothing like the baskets used on an actual course.
