Hyzer
Releasing a disc with the outside edge tilted down, sending it curving in that same direction.
A hyzer is a release angle where the outside edge of the disc, relative to the thrower, is tilted down toward the ground at the moment of release. For a right hand backhand throw, this means the left edge of the disc is angled downward, which sends the disc curving left throughout more of its flight than a flat release would.
This angle matters because it is one of the main tools players use to shape shots around obstacles or to control distance and finish. A hyzer release exaggerates a disc's natural fade, making even a fairly stable disc finish further left than it would flat, which is useful for lines that need to bend around a tree or fence early and finish safely away from out of bounds.
A common confusion for beginners is mixing up hyzer and anhyzer angles, or releasing a hyzer angle without meaning to because of grip or wrist position, which sends throws well off the intended line. Deliberately practicing hyzer releases at different angles, rather than only ever throwing flat, is one of the most useful skills for shaping shots on a real course.
